Signs You’re Dehydrated — And What to Do About It

In Malaysia’s warm climate, it’s easy to lose fluids without realising it, especially when you’re active or stuck in places without air conditioning. That’s why it's important to know what dehydration actually feels like.

Some early signs include dry lips, headaches, tiredness, and dizziness, which can often be mistaken for general fatigue or stress. One of the easiest ways to check your hydration level is by looking at your urine colourideally, it should be pale yellow. A darker yellow is a sign you need to drink more water. More severe symptoms, such as rapid heartbeat, confusion, or fainting, can be dangerous and require immediate medical help.

When you start feeling off, act quickly. Find a shaded or air-conditioned place, sit down, and sip water slowly — don’t gulp it all at once. You can also add a pinch of salt and sugar to your drink or go for oral rehydration salts (ORS), especially if you’ve been sweating heavily. Electrolyte drinks like 100PLUS (in moderation) can also help replenish minerals. For a natural fix, eat fruits like bananas or watermelon, which are high in potassium and water. If you’re still feeling unwell after 30 minutes, it’s best to consult a doctor.
